Coach Melendez was born and raised in Lowell, Ma. He graduated from Lowell
HS in 1990 where he played basketball for four years. Following high
school, Coach Melendez attended Becker College were he earned his degree in

Coach Melendez was born and raised in Lowell, Ma. He graduated from Lowell
HS in 1990 where he played basketball for four years. Following high
school, Coach Melendez attended Becker College were he earned his degree in
criminal justice.
Coach Melendez began coaching in 1997 in Lawrence YMCA where he worked with inner city kids as a mentor and coach. From 2001-2006 Coach Melendez became involved in coaching for the Lowell Boys Travel team from 3rd grade to 8th grade where he had a coaching career record of 112-52. 4 out of the 10 athletes would attend Brooks prep school while the others continued their basketball success at LHS, CCHS & Greater Lowell Technical HS.
In 2006 Coach Melendez joined the coaching staff for the Lowell Girls Travel organization where he was the head coach for the 5th grade team. In 2007 his team was 16-0 in regular season and played in the 6th grade B division and lost by 2 points in the championship game.
Coach Melendez is always willing to gain coaching knowledge by attending several coaches clinics over the past several years to include the Nike Coaches Clinic series. Coach Melendez is married and has 3 children 2 girls and 1 boy.
